About Re-peel
In Flanders, where French fries are part of the food culture, potato waste is an omnipresent waste stream – from chip shops to home kitchens. At Re-peel, we convert this waste stream into a circular, biobased material that is given a second life in new applications. By viewing the abundance of potato peels not as waste but as a valuable raw material, we create innovative and sustainable alternatives. One of our ideas is to make French fry containers from the same material, literally closing the circle: French fries served in a container made from their own peels. In this way, we connect local heritage with circular design and demonstrate the power of reuse. Closing the Circle: From Potato to French Fry Container
At Re-peel, we wanted to develop not only a biobased material, but also an application that completely closes the potato cycle. Initially, we thought of lamps, but we were looking for a way to stay even closer to the origin of our material. That's how we came up with the idea of converting potato peels—the waste product—into French fry containers. In this way, the material returns to its starting point and becomes part of the dining experience once again. This not only literally closes the circle, but also reinforces the circular story we want to tell.
