broei.lab is BROEI’s shared lab, where young creative makers aged between 16 and 30 can develop their own craft thanks to access to space, materials, knowledge and a community of other makers. You’ll be part of a diverse community of makers who learn, experiment and exchange ideas together, and you’ll help shape the lab’s activities.

You don’t need to be a professional creator. You don’t need to be studying art or have years of experience. Whether you’re just starting out, have been at it for a while or have already established your studio: what matters is that you have the desire to create, experiment, learn and help shape this community.

Our shared lab is open and accessible to everyone, but our focus is on audiovisual disciplines: Photography · Film · Music · Audio · Mixed media. We work around three pillars: Space, Community & Skills.

1. SPACE & EQUIPMENT

You can make use of shared workspaces and equipment. That way, you don’t need to own everything yourself to be able to create. We have a darkroom, a music and recording studio, a mobile photo studio, a DJ booth, the necessary software packages for these spaces, and photo and video equipment. More information about each space will be available soon on our rent-a-space-page.

2. COMMUNITY

broei.lab is more than just a workspace. It’s a community. You help decide what the broei.lab season looks like. You’ll meet other young creators, exchange ideas and learn from eachother. Through open lab sessions, workshops, track and informal activities, you’ll build your own craft step by step, together with others, and help shape the lab.

3. SKILLS & TALENT DEVELOPMENT

You can take part in a guided open lab, attend a workshop where you learn something new, or join a track comprising several sessions in which you work more intensively on your own project. These tracks often end with a showcase, where you can share your work with an audience and connect with the wider arts scene in Ghent.
