Every young person deserves the time and space to discover who they are, what they are capable of and what they want to achieve. To reach this goal, we believe in a relaxed* environment where diversity* is embraced.

* Relaxed: where there are a lot of possibilities, without being manditory.
* Diversity: everyone is different and we respect these differences.

To create a Third Space* for and by young people aged between 16 and 30. A place where they can get to know themselves, others and new possibilities. BROEI offers opportunities to experiment, make and take initiative, provides support where needed and invites people from different walks of life to come together.

* Third Space: a place that feels like coming home – separate from your school or work and your own home.

BROEI provides a space for young people and youth organisations to create, experiment, learn and organise. Today, this community is shaped through three initiatives: the Open Call, broei.lab and the Solidaire Keuken. We hand over the programming to young people and youth organisations. We make audiovisual resources and expertise accessible to any young person who’s interested. We get to know each other and each other’s worlds better by cooking and dining together.

Above all, BROEI is a space for and by young people to meet up or simply hang out. In short, the space is open to everyone.

BROEI acts as a facilitator*: we hand over responsibility for what we can and provide a safety net. We offer tailored support and encourage cross-pollination* and collaboration between young people and organisations both within and outside BROEI. In doing so, we consciously seek out young people who come from different backgrounds and bring them in touch with eachother.

Because young people’s lived experiences and needs are constantly evolving, we keep both our approach and our spaces flexible*. We start from those needs, experiment with possible solutions and constantly question our own approach. Not everything has to align perfectly: we leave room for differences and constructive friction*.

* Cross-pollination: where different groups learn from one another.
* Flexible: has no fixed form.
* Constructive friction: not everyone needs to agree with one another to live together, as long as there is respect.
